The 1998
World Bridge Championships have been concluded in Lille,
France.
The Championships comprised the prestigious Vivendi Rosenblum Cup, the knockout open team
event, the Louis Vuitton McConnell
Cup (the equivalent for women), the Société Générale World Open
Pairs Championship, the Louis
Vuitton World Women Pairs Championship, the J.M Weston World Mixed Pairs, the Lipton Ice Tea Junior Triathlon, the Elf World Senior Pairs and Teams
Championships, as well as many other important side
tournaments.
In the Mixed Pairs Championship 598 pairs competed, while 233
teams took part in the Vivendi Rosenblum Cup together with 56
teams in the Louis Vuitton McConnell Cup and 29 teams in the
Lipton Ice Tea Junior Triathlon.
In the Société Générale Open
Pairs, the Elf Senior Pairs and the Louis Vuitton
Women Pairs competitions which are now being played, a total of more
than 850 pairs have competed. 66 Junior Pairs took part in Lipton Ice Tea
Junior Triathlon, while some 300 children played in a demonstration
Minibridge tournament.
The 1998 tournament is the 10th event of the series and the reigning
champions - the 1994 winners - are:
