Winter Wonderland

You will all be aware that the Generali IOC Grand Prix is linked with the Olympic Museum, and the next edition will take place in 2001. One year later Bridge will hopefully move a step nearer to achieving its destiny by staging a demonstration at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. One coincidence between these two facts is that during the Grand Prix meals are taken in the Salon des Jeux Olympiques d'Hiver!

Marc Hodler's interview in this issue of the Bulletin brings the situation regarding participation in the Winter Games up to date, and reminded us that writers and commentators are constantly making references to things associated with the winter. Who has not seen or heard the phrases 'declarer was skating on thin ice', 'he went down in a cold contract', and 'the frozen suit'. Some players even have names associated with Winter Olympic Sports - Anna Malinowski and Piotr Tusyzinski are two obvious examples!
