The President Emeritus of the World Bridge Federation Mr Jaime
Ortiz-Patiño arrived in Paris today to attend the last stages
of the Championship and present the Ortiz-Patiño Trophy to
the winners at the closing ceremony.
At the end of his 10-year service as President of the World Bridge
Federation (1976-86), Mr Ortiz-Patiño established a WBF Youth
Committee with the result that the World Youth Team Championship
was launched in 1987. Mr Ortiz-Patiño graciously donated
the wonderful trophy bearing his name, which has since become the
symbol of world supremacy at Junior bridge.
Mr Ortiz-Patiño has been President Emeritus of the World
Bridge Federation since he left office, and has never forgotten
Junior bridge. He attends regularly his brainchild event and is
ready to offer support whenever we need it.
It is therefore with great pleasure that we welcome the WBF President
Emeritus at the Championship, and we wish him well now and in the
future.
