Beautiful
Bermuda
Bermuda is a semitropical island about 650 miles (1046 kilometres)
off the east coast of the USA. Long a much loved vacation destination,
Bermuda is so special that Travel & Leisure magazine named it
the number one island destination for 1997 among
the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Bermuda's ocean-scapes,
beaches, pastel houses, quaint lanes and friendly people combine
to create a unique environment for the bridge event of the millennium!
Where
to Play
The venue for the Orbis World Bridge Championships
is the five star Canadian Pacific Southampton Princess Hotel, which
enjoys sweeping views over the Atlantic Ocean and the hotel golf
course. The Southampton Princess has been the venue for numerous
successful bridge tournaments, and offers spacious and luxurious
playing areas, with an auditorium-style Vu-Graph room that can seat
700.
Where
to Stay
The
Southampton Princess is Bermuda's premier resort, with facilities
including an outstanding "executive" 18-hole golf course,
multiple tennis courts, an indoor pool and a spa. The guest rooms
are well appointed with items such as robes, an iron and a safe.
Thanks in part to sponsorship from Orbis Investment
Management Limited, the Southampton Princess is extending a special

There's
more
There's
plenty to do in Bermuda between bridge games! Hamilton, the capital,
is 20 minutes from the Southampton Princess. Hamilton offers an
intriguing mix of old and new. Visitors enjoy strolling the streets,
lanes and parks; shopping in old-fashioned stores with modern touches;
browsing in chic boutiques; riding the ferries and lunching in attractive
eateries.
St.
George's makes a fascinating day trip. Located on the east end of
the island, the town was the original settlement. It retains unique
charms and a wealth of history. To the west end of the island, Somerset
and the Royal Naval Dockyard offer spectacular views and fascinating
naval memorabilia.
Nature
lovers may enjoy visiting the beautiful Botanical Gardens, some
of Bermuda's many nature reserves, and the breathtaking limestone
caves.
Bermuda is a golfer's paradise, boasting several
championship courses including the Mid-Ocean Club, the venue for
the Gillette Tour Championship Challenge. Port Royal, a Robert Trent
Jones masterpiece operated by the Government of Bermuda, is 10 minutes
from the Southampton Princess. The Princess' own course, though
short, is one of the finest of its kind.
