TATA is an attractive little town situated some 70 km north-west of Budapest, just off the highway - and the rail line - connecting the Hungarian capital to Vienna.

The Tata Castle

The area of Tata was known for its abundance of natural springs to the Romans, Avars, and Slavs well before the arrival of the Hungarians in 896 A.D. Tata became a permanent settlement in 1093. At the end of the 14th century the Tata Castle was raised which was used as King Sigismund’s summer residence with the surrounding area being his favorite hunting grounds. In 1526, the castle became an important fortification in the war against the Turks, who eventually occupied it many times until they left the area in 1683. In 1727, the land was purchased by the Eszterhazies. It was this wealthy family that gave Tata its renaissance and current beauty.

The Championship will be played in the Tata Sports Center, a modern facility on the outskirts of the town, frequently used for Olympic sports training. Transportation from and to Budapest airport (at SF 20 per person), and Tata and Tatabánya (nearest major town) railway stations (free of charge) will be provided by the organizers.

 • Lodging

The Tata Sports Center, venue of
the 2003 World Junior Pairs Championship

The Tata Sports Center can accommodate about half of the participants; the rest will be lodged in a number of small hotels in the town.

Whether in the Center or in town hotels, rooms are more or less of the same standard. All have private facilities (WC, bath or shower) and will be available at SF 55 (Swiss francs) per person per night in a double room (SF 70 in a single room; SF 40 in 3-bedded rooms). The distance of the Center from the hotels varies, but, typically, does not exceed a few hundred meters - so it can be walked.

Three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be served to all participants. The cost of food is included in the above accommodation rates.
