As expected USA I and Thailand
took the top two spots in the Round Robin and left the rest
of the teams to fight for the remaining places.
In the morning Canada raised their
own hopes and destroyed those of Norway, handing the
European Champions a 25-3 VP drubbing. Having played so well
it was a tragedy for their supporters when they crashed to
defeat against China by an identical margin.

With Canada out of the way the
race for the last two semi-final places was between Denmark,
Israel and The Netherlands. None of them found
their opponents in a generous mood but it was The Netherlands
who missed the boat. If Norway and The Netherlands
had both collected maximum wins there would have been a three
way tie for the last two places and the slide rules would
have come into play.
In today's semi-finals USA I face
Thailand and have to overcome a deficit of 2.7 IMPs
whilst in the match between Denmark and Israel
the Danes start with an advantage of 1 IMP.
