WORLD BRIDGE GAMES

The World Mind Sports Games (WMSG) were held for the first time in 2008, comprising bridge, chess, draughts, go and xiangqi (chinese chess). In the future, they are to be held on every leap year.

To support WMSG, which are considered as the stepping stone on the path of introducing a third kind of Olympic Games (after the Summer and the Winter Olympics), the WBF incorporated the World Team Olympiad in the WMSG, and added several youth competitions. All bridge compeitions played within or in conjunction with WMSG are called World Bridge Games. They comprise the following series for national representatives:

  • Open teams (Vanderbilt Trophy)
  • Women teams
  • Senior teams
  • Juniors teams*
  • Juniors pairs*
  • Juniors individual*

* for the inaugural event (2008), the age limit was exceptionally set to 28 years.
