Each member country of the World Bridge Federation may enter one national representative team in each series of the Games.
In each of the three series, participating teams will be divided into groups and the qualifying stage will be played as a round robin within each group. The qualified teams will advance to the knockout stage, which comprise, in each series, the round of 16, quarterfinals, seminfinals and the final and playoff for third place.
The World Transnational Mixed Teams competition will start as a Swiss Teams event, with 15 rounds of 10 boards played over three days, to qualify the top teams for the knockout stage. The latter comprises the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final & playoff for third place. Eliminated teams will be able to participate in the board-a-match tournament 'Coupe de la Ville'.

Each member NBO, being up to date with the payment of its dues (including the dues for 2012) to the WBF, is authorized to participate in the World Bridge Games by entering one team in the Open Series, one team in the Women Series and one team in the Senior Series of the World Bridge Games. Countries must have paid the entry fee and be up to date with the payment of the dues to the WBF before they can participate in the Games.
Every proposed player must, along with other criteria, satisfy the WBF Credentials Committee that:

                    - he is nominated by the NBO of the country of his birth or the the NBO of which such nominated player first became a member, and has not, during the current or immediately preceding two calendar years represented a different NBO in any WBF or any zonal or intra-zonal competition; or

                    - he is nominated by the NBO of the country of his citizenship or bona fide residence and has not, during the current or immediately preceding two calendar years, represented a different NBO in any WBF competition or any zonal or intra-zonal competition; and

                    - (to participate in the senior series) he is at least 60 years of age or attains the age of 60 during the calendar year of the championship.

Participation in World Bridge Games as condition to participate in Bermuda Bowl and Venice Cup
Only NBOs participating in the World Bridge Games are eligible to qualify to participate in the Bermuda Bowl and Venice Cup Championships held in either of the two subsequent odd-numbered years; in each case, an Open Team must participate in the Games in order to be eligible for the Bermuda Bowl and a Women's team must participate to be eligible for the Venice Cup. If an Open or Women's Team from an NBO does not participate in the 2012 World Bridge Games then that NBO will not be eligible to participate in the Bermuda Bowl or Venice Cup in either 2013 or 2015.
Any NBO which did not participate in the previous World Bridge Games may restore its eligibility for possible participation in a subsequent Bermuda Bowl and Venice Cup by having at least one (1) team play in the Rosenblum Teams or at least two (2) pairs play in the World Open Pairs for the Bermuda Bowl and by having at least one (1) team play in the McConnell Cup Teams or at least two (2) pairs play in the World Women's Pairs for the Venice Cup. Please note that having a team participating in the Rosenblum or pairs in the Open Pairs grants eligibility to participate in the Bermuda Bowl ONLY; for the Venice Cup eligibility to be restored, a Women's team from that NBO must participate in the McConnell Teams (or two pairs must play in the Women's Pairs). |

NBOs are invited to pay attention to the Anti-doping Regulations and to ensure that their players
are fully aware both of the regulations and of the penalties for not following them.
If a competitor is undergoing medical treatment for a condition, which requires the taking of a
substance on the prohibited list (available at the WADA website), the competitor must get a dispensation from the
                    WBF Medical Commission.
Any players requiring exemption certificates should ensure that they complete the TUE form (available here) and return it as soon as possible and no later than 21 days before the commencement of the competition in which they are participating to Dr Jaap Stomphorst (see box). Competitors are advised to register for a TUE well in advance in case there are any additional queries that need answering.
