The World Zonal Team Championships are open to representative teams of the 8 WBF geographical zones, as in the adjacent table. If any zone does not fill its quota, the first berth will be offered to zone 1 (Europe), and the second to zone 6 (Pacific Asia).
Each participating team must play against all other teams. Entry and subsequent refusal to play will result in disqualification.
Every proposed player must, along with other criteria, satisfy the WBF Credentials Committee that:
- he is nominated by the NBO of the country of his birth or the the NBO of which such nominated player first became a member, and has not, during the current or immediately preceding two calendar years represented a different NBO in any WBF or any zonal or intra-zonal competition; or
- he is nominated by the NBO of the country of his citizenship or bona fide residence and has not, during the current or immediately preceding two calendar years, represented a different NBO in any WBF competition or any zonal or intra-zonal competition; and
- (to participate in the senior series) he is at least 60 years of age or attains the age of 60 during the calendar year of the championship.
