The 2001 champions, USA 2
lead after the first day’s play after winning their
three matches, 25-5, 25-4 and 25-4 again. USA2 do not, however,
have a maximum 75 VPs, having suffered a 0.5 VP penalty for
slow play so are on 74.5. China Hong Kong
also had a huge day, chalking up 25, 22 and 25 to lie second
on 72 VPs. One more team managed three wins, Italy
scoring 25, 19 and 25 to lie third with 69 VPs. There is a
significant gap to fourth-placed Denmark,
who are on 54. The biggest win of the first day was achieved
by Chile, who defeated South American rivals,
Uruguay by 111-34 IMPs, 25-1 VPs in Round
One.
