Format The Mixed Pairs Championship consists of three qualifying sessions and two final sessions. The Rosenblum Knockout Teams and the McConnell Knockout Teams will be played in three stages. In the first stage the teams will be divided into groups of 11, 12, 13 or 14 teams and will start with a Round Robin until the field is reduced to 64 and 32 teams respectively. A second stage of a straight knockout will follow, and the Championships will be concluded with the quarterfinals, semifinals and final/playoff. All teams are quaranteed of 3 complete days of play in these events. The Open Pairs Championship and the Women Pairs Championship are matchpointed events, with 4 qualifying sessions, 4 semifinal sessions and 5 final sessions. The Junior Triatlon will have an individual ranking and it consists of a teams competition, a pairs competition and an individual competition. The Par Contest is a competition where 16-20 of the world's top players will be invited ti participate facing computers which will be evaluating every one of their moves. There will be three sessions. The contest is certain to contribute to the enhancement of the image of the game and to its worlwide promotion.
Schedule of Play
The Can-Am Regional will run throughout the Championships, starting on the evening of 16 August and continuing until the evening of 2 September. There will be pairs and teams events during the morning, afternoon and evening each day, open to all bridge players. Conditions of Contest
Systems Regulations The Systems Regulations are contained in the Supplemental Conditions of Contest. It is very important that all players note that no HUM Systems are permitted at any time or for any event during the Championships, and that Brown Sticker Conventions are only permitted during the knockout stages of the Rosenblum (Open) Teams and the McConnell (Women's) Teams and then only if they are submitted by email in advance to Anna Gudge, no later than 1 August 2002 on the special forms provided below.
Players need to note that the WBF is not providing photocopying facilities on site. There is a photocopy bureau in the Hotel Queen Elizabeth which is open from Monday to Friday during normal office hours. There is a charge of 40c per double sided copy and the WBF may be able to arrange for it to be open on Saturdays as well if there is sufficient demand. It is very important, therefore, that players bring sufficient copies of their own convention cards to the Championships, to ensure that each one has a copy to hand to his opponent at the start of every round of every event. Registration & Contact Entries to any of the events in the main Championships (not the Can-Am Regional) will be made exclusively through the National Bridge Organization (NBO) of the players. The NBOs will then make the official nomination to the World Bridge Federation. There is no quota on the number of pairs and teams each NBO may nominate to play in the Championships. Entry Fees
Payment in full for any competition must be made the day before the start of that competition. It may be made in cash in US dollars (also in Canadian dollars or Euro in accordance with an exchange rate to be published on site), or by cheque drawn on a US bank or by travellers cheques. |
