Monaco
Monaco is a small independent principality and a famous
resort, forming an enclave in southeastern France. Sheltered by the slopes
of the French Alps and benefiting from a mild and temperate climate, the
Principality of Monaco lies along a 4 km stretch of the Mediterranean
coast, amidst spectacular scenery: blue as far as the eye can see - where
the sea and the sky meet, with a unique luminosity, the result of more
than 300 days of sunshine per year. The Principality is easily accessible
from Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport as well as via the European
road and rail
networks. In addition, it also has two deep water harbours located at
the foot of the Grimaldi Rock.
The principality is 1.95 sq km in area. With a population
estimated at some 32,000. Monaco has one of the highest population densities
of any country in the world.
The principality is composed of four districts: Monaco,
the capital; La Condamine; Monte Carlo; and Fontvieille.
The official language is French, although a number of people speak Monégasque,
a mixture of French and Italian. Italian and English are also spoken.

Monaco, an elegant multi-faceted destination
The commune of Monaco, located on a rocky promontory, is
an ancient fortified town. It has a large number of places of interest
concentrated within an area of a few hundred meters. Among them are a
cathedral, a palace in the medieval and Renaissance styles, and an oceanographical
museum established in 1910 by Prince Albert I. The Monte Carlo Opera and
Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra are here; the Monaco Grand Prix and
Monte Carlo Rally are popular annual automobile-racing events. All these
make Monaco truly an exceptional destination.
Not to be overlloked is the famous gambling casino of Monte
Carlo, run by Société des Bains de Mer, a private
company, in which the government now holds a majority interest. This corporation
also owns the principal hotels and clubs of the commune that serve the
tourist trade. The citizens of Monaco are exempt from taxes, and they
are forbidden to enter the gaming rooms.

Accommodation to fulfil dreams
Monaco’s cosmopolitan clientele, attracted by its reputation for
elegance, refinement and safety, are assured of a warm welcome at any
of its twenty hotels. Some of the 'four star'and 'four star de luxe' properties
are located in belle époque splendour around Casino square.
Others are located on the coast, either right on the shore or perched
on a headland, with views of the sea; their rich colours are evocative
of the dolce vita and the pursuit of pleasure. Michelin-starred
chefs, masters of haute cuisine, offer dinner dishes inspired by the surrounding
region that are infused with a multitude of flavours, making Monaco the
destination of choice for discerning gourmets.

Live for the excitement of sports and leisure
At the heart of one of the most beautiful bays in the
Mediterranean, the sea itself forms the focus for many sporting activities:
of course tennis and golf, but also sailing, water-skiing, jet-skis, and
even the thrill of parascending! For total relaxation, however, the Thermes
Marins, overlooking the Port of Monaco, is second to none. Here one
can recharge one’s batteries before going shopping in the malls
and luxury designer boutiques. At night the casinos, gala dinners, and
stunning nightclubs all come to life, making Monte Carlo a special corner
of Paradise.
