FLORIDA (meaning flowery in Spanish), is a middle-sized state, inhabited by 15 million people. It has a subtropical climate and consists mostly of a large peninsula, about 640 km long.

The state has about 30,000 lakes, while islands, coral reefs, and sandbars, separated from the mainland by narrow lagoons, extend along nearly the entire Atlantic coast.

Florida is a major producer of citrus fruit and vegetables, but with endless days of sunshine it is better known as a primary tourist destination.

FORT LAUDERDALE is a leading resort lying just 35 km north of Miami, on the Atlantic Ocean. Honeycombed by rivers, bays, inlets and canals, Fort Lauderdale is a city of islands.
